Lake Deep Drilling Research in Heqing, Yunnan Published
In August 2002, the Continental Drilling launched its first drilling project in Heqing in northwest Yunnan Province. Through this project, a 737-meter’s long continuous lake sediment core was successfully acquired, making the full-well drill-core recovery rate as high as 97%. This drill-core has the equally comparable value to that of Lake Baikal in Russia and Lake Biwa Ko in Japan. It has become a most ideal lake sediment core in China for the research on environmental evolution.
This book is prefaced by academician An Zhisheng and written by Professor Shen Ji with Nanjing Institute of Geography & Limnology, CAS. It is a general review on research work of Heqing drill-core under Continental Drilling Program. Composed of 6 chapters, this book elaborates the evolution of the ancient Heqing Lake since 2.7Ma and its response to the regional environment from the aspects of geological and geographical background of Heqing Basin, palaeo-magnetism dating and magnetic characteristics of the drill-core, drill-core sporopollen analysis and palaeo-vegetation succession, drill-core diatom study and lake environmental change, drill-core geochemical index and environmental evolution stages, and, on this basis, reveals southwest monsoon evolution cycle and its driving mechanism through orbit tuning and frequency spectrum analysis.
This book can be made a reference by research fellows engaging in quaternary geology, geography, palaeolimnology, paleoclimatology and global changes, as well as post-graduates of relevant specialties in colleges and universities.
