Project 973:Basic Study on Formation of Blue Algal Bloom Ecological Disaster in Taihu Lake and Its Prevention —The Third and Fourth Sub-Project Progress Report Meeting Holding in Nanjing
Project 973, Basic Study on Formation of Blue Algal Bloom Ecological Disaster in Taihu Lake and Its Prevention was launched at the end of August last year, and one year has elapsed since its launch up to now. In order to make full understanding to the progress of project and prepare for the annual meeting upcoming, the third sub-project “How Blue Algal Bloom Erupting Makes Impact on Biogenic Elements and Its Environmental Effects” and the fourth sub-project “How Lake Biome Structure Responded to Blue Algal Bloom Erupting and Its Principles” are discussed on the Annual Wrap-up Meeting held in Chinese Academy of Sciences’ Nanjing Institute of Geography and Lakes on September 11, 2009. And all key persons including research fellows and directors of Science and Technology Division attended the meetings.
Wu Qinglong, a research fellow and the chief scientist of the project chaired the report of the fourth sub-project in the morning, each tram leader, according to eco-systems biological body size, reports how different biome responds to blue algal bloom disaster and research progress currently achieved respectively from a variety of aspects including bacteria, eukaryotic micro-organisms, zooplankton, aquatic plant, benthic animal and fish, six classification orts in total. In the afternoon Gao Guang, a research fellow and the chief of the third sub-project chaired the report of the 3rd sub-project, each team leader, according to the lake water body, water-body sediment interface and main vertical lines within sediment substance, reported the research progress on how blue algal bloom breaking out makes impact on circular biogenic elements and its environmental effects. After the reporting, attendees conducted a lively discussion.
Research fellow Wu Qinglong summed up the progress of the two sub-projects after reporting, he praised all team members for their good performance and achievements and encouraged them to keep on going for future targets, trying best to obtain data and to conduct analysis so as to get to achievements as soon as possible. He also stressed on the importance of internal communication and collaboration amongst sub-subjects so as to highlight system integrity. It is proposed Project 973 Mid-term Evaluation Meeting will be held at the end of this year, hoping there will be a great harvest in the meeting. So every one of the members of the project shall work hard together for the project passing the interim evaluation.
