NIGLAS Delegation Attends 2026 ASLO-SIL Joint Conference in Canada
From May 12 to 16, the joint conference hosted by the Association for the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography (ASLO) and the International Society of Limnology (SIL) 2026 was successfully held in Montreal, Canada. Led by Prof. ZHANG Yunlin, a delegation from Nanjing Institute of Geography and Limnology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (NIGLAS) took part in the event.
An honorary ceremony was held on May 14 local time, during which Professor ZHANG Yunlin was formally conferred the title of ASLO Fellow. This title honors his outstanding academic achievements and worldwide academic influence accumulated through long-term dedicated research in limnology. Experts and scholars from across the globe witnessed the honorary ceremony.
During the conference, NIGLAS researchers were invited to chair three scientific sessions. Delegates presented over ten high-standard oral reports and displayed academic posters. They conducted in-depth academic exchanges with international peers on research topics including safe drinking water guarantee, monitoring and prevention of cyanobacterial blooms, mechanisms and ecological effects of lake carbon cycling, simulation of watershed eco-hydrological processes, and remote sensing application in water environment.
NIGLAS's fruitful research outputs have earned wide acclaim and high recognition from the international academic community. The active participation has further strengthened the institute's global academic standing in limnology, while building a momentum for recruiting top-tier talents and advancing disciplinary innovation.
The event, themed " Aquatic Confluence: Science, People, Knowledge", organized numerous keynote speeches and more than 100 scientific sessions. It gathered over 1,500 researchers worldwide, establishing itself as one of the most influential academic gatherings in the global freshwater science community this year.
