Located by the Poyang Lake in Xingzi County, Jiangxi Province, the station serves as a base for research of lake-wetland ecological structure and function, a base for education of lake-wetland value and protection, and a base for international cooperation and academic exchange. The station is equipped with fields for meteorology and hydrology observation, experiment fields for material transport, lake -wetland ecosystem restoration and some laboratories. There are serval sites for automatic observation of meteology, hydrology and water quality in the lake.

Through long-term observation, follow-up and collection of information on lake wetland resources environment system in Poyang Lake area, taking into consideration the relationship between the Poyang Lake and local rivers and the influence of Three-Gorge project on lake wetlands, the research station makes a all-round monitoring and research on the lake wetland water environment change, structure and functions of lake wetland ecosystem, and the comprehensive management of lake-basin so as to provide a support for the proper use and protection of the lake.
